Sustainable Transport this Christmas

Sustainable Transport this Christmas

Christmas can be a stressful time for driving, with extra traffic on the roads due to last minute shopping, and travellers en route back home for the holiday season. Taking the bus, walking or cycling can take away some of the stress of trying to find parking and sitting in gridlock.

The Transport for Ireland website details Christmas arrangements here and the TFI 90 minute fare is just €2.00 and can be used on the following services: * Dublin Bus (Except Express services which cost €2.40); * Go-Ahead Ireland services in the Dublin City Bus network; * All Luas services; and * Most DART and Commuter Rail services (zones 1 to 4 in the Short Hop Zone).

Dublin Bike Parking has a handy map where you can find bicycle parking and there are also details here on the Dublin City Council website. Details on renting bikes can be found here and there is also a map of where bike stations are situated.

Pedestrian streets are a more relaxed experience for shopping and eating. Capel street was permanently pedestrianised in 2023 and adds to the other pedestrian streets in Dublin, where walking feels safer and less polluted. With Dublin being a city of villages, there are also lots of great local places to eat and shop without having to come to the city centre.
